On October 16, at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, Georgian Business Association organized a meeting of representatives of Association member companies with the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia. The meeting was attended by General Director of Georgian Industrial Group Zurab Gelenidze and GIG Director General’s Advisor on Strategic Issues Levan Vepkhvadze. In his speech, the Minister spoke about the issues that the Ministry of Economy is currently working on, structural reforms were also discussed; pension reform, capital market development, private and public co-operation, etc.
At the end of the meeting Giorgi Gakharia focused on the suggestion of GIG Director General’s Advisor on Strategic Issues Levan Vepkhvadze, which encourages industrial production and strategy creation. "During construction of a new energy facility, the company will use the details of local production, turbine or other required material which will be produced in Georgia. In return, the investor will receive additional tariffs from the state and this will help creating additional jobs in the country" -said Levan Vepkhvadze. The Minister shares a similar model of mutual cooperation which, in his opinion, will create a good precedent for encouraging industrial production by the state.
The project of the business house was also discussed at the meeting, which foresees the provision of 600 digital services to companies in a single space through a one-window principle, that are now provided by various companies.
The company "GIG" is one of the largest industrial groups in Georgia. Its business portfolio includes coal extraction, generation of electricity (hydro, natural gas and coal-fired stations), natural gas trade and real estate management.
